Bitcoin slips below $63K as long positions get flushed out
Bitcoin traded around $62,700 on Friday, down more than 3% for the week. CryptoQuant data shows Binance open interest and price are now falling together, a sign that leveraged long positions are getting stopped out rather than holding on. Add in $332 million of spot ETF outflows and rising geopolitical tension around the Strait of Hormuz, and buyers now need to reclaim $64,000 to repair the chart.
Harmony ONE crashes to an all time low after a 4 billion token exploit
Harmony confirmed an exploit on Wednesday after an attacker minted about 4 billion ONE tokens, close to 26% of the total supply, using a method involving empty blocks. The token fell to a new all time low of $0.0005735 before settling near $0.00075. Harmony has paused its bridge, pushed a patch, and is weighing a rollback, though most of the minted tokens had already reached exchanges before the exploit went public.
Binance security chief: quantum computers are not an immediate threat
Binance CSO Jimmy Su says quantum computers are still nowhere near capable of breaking crypto's cryptography, even though a March 2026 Google study cut the estimated hardware requirement by about 20 times. Su pointed out that phishing, malware, and compromised credentials are the threats actually costing users money today, not quantum hardware. Post-quantum standards already exist, he said, the real challenge is migrating the entire crypto ecosystem to use them.
Thailand drops crypto capital gains tax to 0% through 2029
Thailand's Cabinet approved a five year personal income tax exemption on capital gains from crypto sales made through SEC licensed platforms, running from January 2025 through December 2029. The government expects the move to boost trading volume and actually raise roughly $1 billion a year in related tax revenue. Trades on unlicensed or overseas platforms, plus income from staking or airdrops, do not qualify for the exemption.
