YOUR DOSE OF CRYPTO WISDOM AND ENTERTAINMENT

What a week. Somewhere between Washington reshuffling the Federal Reserve and an AI digging through college hard drives to find a decade-old Bitcoin wallet, crypto managed to stay at the center of pretty much everything.

This Friday, we've got stories that actually matter, a new Fed Chair with crypto exposure, Trump floating 250 pardons (yes, the SBF question is back), Ethereum's next big upgrade taking shape, and a wild recovery story that went viral for good reason. Let's get into it.

📰 THIS WEEK’S HOT NEWS

The Fed Has a New Chair — and He's Not Afraid of Bitcoin

Kevin Warsh was confirmed as the next Federal Reserve chair in a 54–45 Senate vote, succeeding Jerome Powell after eight years. It was one of the most divided confirmation votes in the Fed's modern history, splitting largely along party lines.

What makes this one to watch for crypto? Warsh is the first incoming Fed Chair with direct financial exposure to digital assets — disclosures show ties to projects including dYdX, Polychain Capital, and Dapper Labs, along with token holdings linked to Solana and Optimism. He's gone on record saying Bitcoin "doesn't trouble" him and described it as a signal of market confidence in monetary policy.

He takes the job at a rough moment: inflation hit a three-year high in April, and geopolitical pressure is keeping rate cuts off the table. His first FOMC meeting is scheduled for June 16–17.

Trump Is Reviewing 250 Pardons. Crypto Is Watching Every Name.

The White House is exploring a large-scale clemency action of up to 250 pardons to mark America's 250th anniversary. Possible announcement dates are June 14 (Trump's birthday and Flag Day) or July 4. A White House official confirmed no final decision has been made.

The crypto sector is paying close attention. Sam Bankman-Fried, serving a 25-year sentence for fraud related to FTX's collapse, has publicly requested a pardon, though Trump had previously dismissed the idea. Keonne Rodriguez, a developer behind the Samourai Wallet privacy tool facing money laundering charges, has 16,082 petition signatures backing his clemency. Tornado Cash developers Roman Storm and Roman Semenov have also attracted petitions, though with far fewer signatures.

Trump's prior crypto-adjacent pardons, including BitMEX co-founders, Binance's CZ, and Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, have set expectations high. Whether any of these names make this list remains unknown.

AI Helped Recover 5 BTC Locked Since 2015. Here's the Real Story.

A post on X went viral this week when user @cprkrn claimed he recovered 5 Bitcoin from a wallet he'd been locked out of for over 11 years, and credited Anthropic's Claude for helping crack it. The wallet had received its full 5 BTC balance in April 2015, then went completely dormant. On-chain data confirms the funds moved out on May 13, 2026.

The reality behind the story is a bit more grounded than the headlines suggest. Claude didn't break Bitcoin's encryption or brute-force a password. What actually happened: the user found an old mnemonic phrase in a college notebook, uploaded archived files to Claude, and the AI identified an older wallet.dat backup that predated the password change. That older file used the original password, which he now had. The private keys matched, the wallet opened.

The story did spark a real debate, though: is uploading sensitive wallet backups to a cloud-based AI tool a good idea? Security researchers have raised concerns about that approach regardless of the happy ending.

Ethereum's Glamsterdam Upgrade Is Taking Shape

Ethereum core developers gathered in Svalbard, Norway, for an interop sprint focused on the next major network upgrade, Glamsterdam. A few milestones worth noting came out of the week.

The headline technical target: a 200 million gas limit floor post-upgrade, a significant jump from the current ~60 million limit. This isn't flipping on tomorrow, it's the post-Glamsterdam baseline tied to several converging improvements including ePBS design work and EIP-8037 repricing. Speaking of which, EIP-8037 has been finalized, introducing clearer economic boundaries for state-related storage operations as the network scales.

The Ethereum Foundation also confirmed a leadership transition in its Protocol cluster. New leads Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and Fredrik are stepping in as Tim Beiko and Barnabé Monnot depart. Meanwhile, early work on the next upgrade after Glamsterdam, called Hegotå, is already underway.
